Mission Statement

As we reflect on our journey/history and the communities we serve, we first want to take a moment to honor our lands. Although this acknowledgment is small, we belief it is an important step toward recognizing and respecting the enduring relationship between ourselves, those we serve now, all who have come before us, and the ancestral lands we all live on now: 

"We acknowledge that the land that now makes up the United States of America was the traditional home, hunting ground, trade exchange point, and migration route of more that 574 American Indian and Alaska Native federally recognized tribes and many more tribal nations that are not federally recognized or no longer exist.

We recognize the cruel legacy of slavery and colonialism in our nation and acknowledge the people whose labor was exploited for generations to help establish the economy of the United States.

We honor indigenous, enslaved, and immigrant peoples' resilience, labor, and stewardship of the land and commit to creating a future founded on respect, justice, and inclusion for all people as we work to heal the deepest generational wounds."

Established in 2020 by Jennive Henry (she/her), our practice was born out of a deep commitment to mental health and community well-being. Jennive, a proud descendant of the natives from the lands now known as Texas and Mexico, is a daughter, sister, granddaughter, wife, and friend. As a first-generation college graduate, Jennive was driven by a lifelong goal to optimize mental health impact within her community, reflecting her core values and beliefs. The onset of COVID-19 further galvanized her mission to create a private practice that could effectively serve those in need.

Why Amethyst?

The name “Amethyst” was chosen with care, drawing from the rich history and symbolism associated with this beautiful stone. For centuries, amethyst has been revered for its healing properties. Ancient civilizations, from the Greeks and Romans to the Egyptians, believed that amethyst could protect the wearer, bring clarity, and promote calmness. In addition, Its deep purple hue is associated with the crown chakra, which represents higher consciousness, spiritual connection, and enlightenment—a fitting symbol for a practice dedicated to healing and growth. 

More personally, the color purple holds special significance within Jennive's family. The matriarchs within her linage have always been drawn to this hue, and this deep connection to this color only adds another layer of meaning to the name Amethyst Counseling, LLC. Jennive acknowledges the grounding influence and support her family offers and is considered to be foundational in order for her to guide others on their journey toward healing, belonging, and self-discovery.

Choosing this name was not just about the stone’s history but also about the energy it represents. Amethyst symbolizes the journey toward healing, understanding, and self-discovery, all of which are core values in Amethyst Counseling, LLC. Just as the stone is believed to provide protection and clarity, our aim is to offer a safe space for clients to explore their innermost thoughts and feelings, guiding them toward greater emotional and relational well-being.

In its initial phase, our practice offered a hybrid model of home-based and virtual therapy to individuals, groups, families, and children. We began by serving Corpus Christi, TX, and its surrounding areas. The early days were marked by challenges such as limited resources, raising awareness about our services, navigating the unknowns of starting a business, and juggling the demands of home-based and virtual sessions. Additionally, a sudden relocation presented further hurdles, but we persevered through these initial struggles.

As we evolved, we expanded our services to include relationship and couples therapy, though our focus has since narrowed to working exclusively with adults. Recognizing a significant gap in sexual health information and treatment, Jennive began the intensive program with Institute for Sex Education and Enlightenment (ISEE) in the fall of 2021 to become a certified holistic sex therapist. This specialization allowed us to address the pressing demand for sexual health services.

Transitioning to an entirely virtual model allowed Amethyst Counseling to serve all of the people of Texas. Amethyst Counseling is interested in serving Texans not just in big cities but those in rural counties who may have limited mental health resources. This shift was inspired by Jennive's own experiences growing up in a small town and understanding the critical need for accessible mental health services.
